Vancouver — A somber atmosphere settled over the Sikh community today as the Khalsa Diwan Society issued a strong condemnation of an act of vandalism at the historic Ross Street Gurdwara in Vancouver. The incident, which occurred on the morning of Khalsa Sajna Diwas—a day celebrating Sikh strength, unity, and resilience—has been described as a direct attack on the values of peace and inclusivity that underpin both Sikhism and Canadian society.
According to a press release issued by the Khalsa Diwan Society, a small group of Sikh separatists defaced the walls of the Gurdwara with divisive slogans supporting Khalistan. The Society referred to the act as “part of an ongoing campaign by extremist forces” aimed at spreading fear and division within the Canadian Sikh community.
“This is not only an attack on our Gurdwara,” the statement read, “but also an assault on the legacy our ancestors built—a legacy grounded in hard work, unity, and peaceful coexistence.”
The Society emphasized that such actions undermine decades of efforts by the Sikh community to build a strong, thriving presence in Canada—a country known for its diversity and freedom. It called on all Canadians to stand together in opposition to extremist ideologies.
“We must denounce these acts and reaffirm our shared commitment to the values of peace, unity, and respect,” the statement urged. “This attack is an attack on all of us—on the very unity that makes Canada strong.”
Authorities have launched an official investigation.
