Richmond, B.C. – Drivers are advised of weekend traffic-pattern changes on Highway 99 at Steveston Highway, starting tonight, Friday, Feb. 7, 2025. The changes are necessary as crews dismantle and remove the old Steveston Highway crossing, following a previously postponed closure due to weather conditions.
According to the BC Transportation Ministry, Highway 99 will be closed in both directions overnight on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 9 p.m. until 8 a.m. (until 5 a.m. on Monday). During these closures, drivers will need to detour using the highway on/off ramps.
From 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, the highway will be open with two lanes in each direction, though lanes may shift to accommodate construction work. Drivers are urged to use caution, follow detour signs, and obey reduced speed limits in the construction zone.
The same traffic disruptions will occur over the weekends of Feb. 21-24 and Feb. 28-March 3. There will be no impacts to traffic during weekdays or over the Family Day long weekend.
Motorists should expect delays during overnight closures and daytime traffic-pattern changes and consider alternative routes.
