Surrey – In a decisive victory, Tamara Jansen, the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) candidate, won the Cloverdale-Langley City byelection with a commanding 66.3% of the vote. This result signals a dramatic shift from the 2021 federal election, where the Liberal Party held the riding with 39.2%.
The Conservatives saw a significant surge from their previous 36.1%, while support for the Liberal Party of Canada (LPC) plummeted to 16%, and the New Democratic Party (NDP) dropped to 12.5%. Jansen’s win highlights growing voter dissatisfaction with the federal Liberal government under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre celebrated the win, calling it a strong message from Canadians.
“The message is clear: Canadians want an ‘axe the tax’ election now,” Poilievre posted on X.
Jansen’s victory also underscores the riding’s shift toward Conservative leadership, doubling the combined vote totals of all other candidates. Political analysts view this outcome as a significant challenge to Trudeau’s government and a rallying point for the CPC in future campaigns.
