Surrey, BC – In a decisive move to tackle the ongoing shortage of truck parking spaces in the city, Surrey City Council has greenlit plans for two new truck parking sites. During Monday’s Regular Council Meeting, two Temporary Use Permits (TUPs) were approved for public notification, paving the way for much-needed relief in the city’s congested trucking sector.
The first site, located at 17768 96 Ave. in the Anniedale-Tynehead area, will offer 41 parking spaces, while a second site at 13134 115B St. in Bridgeview will accommodate 36 trucks. Together, these new locations will help alleviate the strain on Surrey’s trucking infrastructure, ensuring that truck drivers have access to safe and secure parking facilities.
“We have taken a significant step towards addressing the urgent need for truck parking spaces in our city,” said Mayor Brenda Locke. “Trucking is our economy on wheels, and by advancing these plans, we are ensuring our drivers can operate efficiently while balancing the needs of the community. This is just the beginning, and we are committed to rolling out additional sites in the near future.”
This latest development is part of Surrey’s broader strategy to introduce four truck parking sites on City-owned land. Earlier this year, the Council approved license agreements with Prudential Transportation Ltd., which will oversee these new locations. A total of approximately 150 truck spaces will be created, providing much-needed capacity in a sector vital to Surrey’s economic lifeblood.
The public will have the opportunity to weigh in on the two proposed sites before Council makes a final vote on permit approvals.
