Burnaby, BC – A two-month-long investigation by Burnaby RCMP’s Prolific Offender Suppression Team (POST) has led to the arrest of six men involved in an organized mail theft operation.
The investigation began after two break-ins at an apartment building in the 6500-block of Telford Avenue in October 2024. POST identified a group of suspects and launched a detailed probe into their activities.
On December 11, 2024, officers executed a search warrant at a residence in the 5000-block of Belleville Avenue, resulting in the arrest of four men at the scene. A significant quantity of offence-related items was seized, including:
• 346 pieces of identification
• 572 pieces of stolen mail
• 496 bank cards
• 155 cheques
• An embossing machine
• Equipment used to manufacture fraudulent identification
Six men now face multiple potential charges related to fraud and theft.
“The proliferation of identity theft is a serious issue that can cause significant financial hardship, and in some cases, financial devastation,” said Insp. Matt Toews, Burnaby RCMP’s Investigative Services Officer. “In this case, the thieves were organized and had equipment to mass-produce false identification. The large seizure of various identification and manufacturing equipment will have saved numerous victims from financial hardship.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
