Surrey- A powerful atmospheric river is causing widespread flooding and road closures across Metro Vancouver on Saturday morning. Heavy rain continues to drench the region, with a rainfall warning in effect for Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley, Howe Sound, and Whistler.
Between 90 and 150 mm of rain is expected across the region, with some areas, such as the North Shore Mountains, potentially seeing more than 180 mm before the storm subsides tomorrow.
The first significant storm of the season has resulted in numerous reports of localized flooding, road closures, and traffic disruptions. In Surrey, RCMP closed the intersection of 76 Avenue and 152 Street after several vehicles stalled in waist-high water. Drivers are also being asked to avoid King George Boulevard near 128 Street due to water pooling on sections of the road.
The storm has caused power outages, flash flooding, and traffic delays, which may also impact voter turnout on election day.
