Ottawa- Following Donald J. Trump’s election as the 47th President of the United States, Canada’s Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre extended his congratulations and highlighted the impact of U.S.-Canada relations on Canadian jobs and the economy.
“The U.S. is Canada’s best friend and biggest trading partner, and I will work with the President to benefit both countries,” Poilievre stated. Emphasizing his commitment to “save our jobs,” he warned that continued high taxation under Prime Minister Trudeau’s policies is driving investment and employment south of the border. Poilievre pointed to a staggering half-trillion-dollar exodus of Canadian investment to the U.S. over the past nine years, which he argued has left Canadians struggling with unaffordable housing and rising food costs.
In light of Trump’s win and anticipated tax cuts, Poilievre called for an immediate halt to Trudeau’s plan to quadruple the carbon tax and impose other tax increases. “We must axe taxes. Bring home our paycheques. Save our jobs. Stand up for Canada,” Poilievre urged, framing the issue as a fight for Canadian economic security and prosperity amid the shifting political landscape south of the border.
