Edmonton, Alberta — Former Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney has officially announced his bid to lead the Liberal Party of Canada and succeed Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Speaking to a crowd of supporters and Liberal MPs in Edmonton, Alberta, Carney emphasized his love for Canada and his ambition to make the country even better.
“I’m doing this because I love our country,” Carney said during his launch speech, adding, “but it could be even better.”
Drawing on his extensive experience as a central bank governor in both Canada and England, Carney promised to focus on getting Canada’s economy back on track. “I’ve helped manage multiple crises, and I’ve helped save two economies,” he said. “I know how business works, and I know how to make it work for you.”
The Liberal Party is set to choose its next leader on March 9, 2025. Carney’s candidacy marks a significant moment as he pledges to bring his expertise in economics and crisis management to address the challenges facing the country.
