Surrey, BC – One man has been arrested in connection with an overnight fire that damaged at least one business in Surrey’s City Centre neighbourhood.
Shortly after 2:30 a.m., Surrey Police Service (SPS) Frontline officers were on patrol near 108 Avenue and City Parkway when they noticed smoke and a burning smell coming from a small strip mall. Upon investigating, officers spotted a man leaving a business and immediately arrested him.
Surrey Fire Service responded to the scene, leading to overnight road closures on 108 Avenue, with additional closures possible throughout the morning.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Fire investigators from both SPS and Surrey Fire Service will assess the extent of the damage and determine the cause of the fire. The suspect remains in custody as the investigation continues.
