White Rock, BC – White Rock City Council has officially approved a bylaw allowing leashed dogs on the city’s iconic waterfront promenade during designated hours.
From April 1 to September 30, dogs on a leash are welcome on the promenade daily from 5:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.. During the off-season, October 1 to March 31, leashed dogs are allowed on the promenade at any time.
This change follows a successful pilot program last summer that permitted early morning dog access. According to city staff, the trial received minimal complaints and was well received by the public.
However, dog owners should note a few important restrictions:
- Dogs are not allowed on the White Rock Pier at any time.
- Dogs are permitted on the beach, but must be on a leash shorter than two metres.
- Off-leash dogs on the beach remain prohibited under the BC Wildlife Act.
City officials hope this bylaw will enhance the experience for dog owners while maintaining safety and cleanliness along the waterfront.
