Ottawa – New Democratic Party (NDP) Leader Jagmeet Singh has formally requested an emergency debate in the House of Commons following alarming revelations by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) regarding violent criminal activities allegedly orchestrated by agents of the Indian government on Canadian soil. In a letter addressed to Speaker Greg Fergus, Singh invoked Standing Order 52(2), citing urgent concerns about the security and safety of Canadian citizens.
According to Singh, the RCMP’s findings suggest that agents of the Indian government are involved in serious criminal activities in Canada, including homicide, extortion, organized crime collaboration, and interference in Canadian democratic processes. The revelations come on the heels of allegations that India played a role in the assassination of Canadian citizen Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
Singh emphasized the gravity of the situation, noting that the RCMP has issued warnings to at least 13 individuals facing serious threats. The NDP leader urged for swift parliamentary action to protect Canadians, stating, “Given the severity of the situation and the danger it poses to all Canadians, it is my view that an emergency debate is needed so that all parliamentarians may deliberate on swift actions that can be taken to protect Canadians and our country.”
The call for an emergency debate follows growing concerns about foreign interference in Canada’s domestic affairs and the security of Canadian citizens. The outcome of Singh’s request will likely be addressed in the coming days.
