Surrey, B.C. – The two men hired to assassinate Surrey businessman Ripudaman Singh Malik have now both been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for 20 years.
On Friday, Jose Lopez, 26, was handed a life sentence after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in Malik’s death. His accomplice, 24-year-old Tanner Fox, had received the same sentence in late January.
Speaking outside the court in New Westminster, Malik’s son made an emotional plea, stating that his family’s journey for justice will not be complete until those who orchestrated the murder are held accountable.
“I am calling on the RCMP to be active in continuing that investigation to bring those who hired Mr. Fox and Mr. Lopez … to justice,” he said.
He also urged the public to come forward with any information, saying, “If you know something or if you’ve heard something, please call the RCMP. Cooperate with the RCMP so that those who hired the two killers can be brought to justice.”
Malik was shot dead outside his business at 8236 128 Street, Surrey, on July 14, 2022. The high-profile killing sent shockwaves through the community, given Malik’s past legal battles and business influence.
While Fox and Lopez have now been sentenced, investigators have yet to confirm who ordered the killing. The RCMP’s probe into the masterminds behind the murder remains ongoing.
