Brampton, Ontario- On Sunday, November 3, 2024, a demonstration at a Hindu temple in Brampton, Ontario, escalated rapidly, raising serious public safety concerns as tensions flared between community members. Peel Regional Police have since increased their presence in the area to ensure public safety and maintain peace.
In response to another large gathering last night, which involved several hundred people, Peel Regional Police were forced to intervene after the demonstration became violent. The assembly was declared unlawful, prompting the deployment of the Public Order Unit to disperse both groups and restore order.
Acknowledging the growing anxiety within the community, Peel Regional Police emphasized the importance of lawful and peaceful expression, while reaffirming their duty to maintain community safety. A statement issued by the police reminded individuals of their right to assemble and express their views but stressed that any unlawful actions would be fully investigated and, if necessary, met with appropriate charges.
“Hate has no place in our community and will not be tolerated,” the police statement read. Community members are urged to contact emergency services if they feel threatened, while non-emergency situations can be reported at (905)-453-2121.
