Langley, B.C. – A commercial truck struck two overpasses on Highway 1 westbound near Glover Road on the morning of February 20, 2025, prompting an investigation by BC Highway Patrol and Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) officers.
The incident occurred at 9:17 a.m., when a tractor-trailer towing a large vertical load collided with both the 264 Street overpass and the CP Rail overpass. The right-most lane of Highway 1 remains partially closed as authorities assess the damage.
While initial reports indicate that damage to the overpasses appears minimal, officials are investigating potential load height and permitting violations. The shipment of pre-formed concrete involved in the collision is linked to a company known to police, adding further scrutiny to the case.
The crash comes less than a year after the province introduced harsher penalties for commercial drivers who hit overpasses and bridges. Under the new regulations, truck drivers face fines of up to $100,000 and possible jail time of up to 18 months, though the penalties do not extend to the trucking companies employing them.
B.C. Transportation Minister Mike Farnworth addressed the incident bluntly, stating, “The overpasses are not lowering themselves.”
As the investigation continues, drivers are advised to expect delays in the area and to use alternate routes where possible.
