Ottawa- Temporary foreign workers applying for permanent residency in Canada will no longer receive additional points for job offers supported by a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), announced Immigration Minister Marc Miller on Tuesday.
Previously, an LMIA-backed job offer could provide applicants with 50 to 200 points in Canada’s Express Entry System, an online platform managing skilled immigration programs.
The change aims to curb fraudulent activities and ensure greater integrity within the immigration process, Miller stated during a press conference. The decision is expected to bring a more equitable approach to the points-based system by reducing misuse of LMIA-backed job offers.
This policy shift marks a significant adjustment to Canada’s skilled immigration framework.
