Ottawa – The Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, has announced a significant change to Canada’s Express Entry system. Starting in spring 2025, candidates will no longer receive additional points for having a job offer.
This measure aims to reduce fraud by eliminating the incentive to illegally buy or sell Labour Market Impact Assessments (LMIAs) to boost a candidate’s chances of being selected for permanent residence in Canada.
The change will affect all Express Entry candidates, including those currently working in Canada on a temporary basis.
Candidates who have already received an Invitation to Apply (ITA) or have an ongoing application will not be impacted.
Once introduced, the change will apply to all candidates in the Express Entry pool, whether they currently have a job offer or are entering the pool after the rule takes effect.
Minister Miller emphasized that this decision is part of the government’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of Canada’s immigration system while ensuring fairness for all candidates.
