Victoria, B.C. – British Columbia Premier David Eby has announced that his government will introduce legislation to tax U.S. trucks traveling through Canada to Alaska, escalating retaliation against President Donald Trump’s tariffs on Canadian goods.
Eby did not hold back in his criticism of Trump’s trade policies, calling them a “stupid trade war” and vowing that B.C. will fight back.
“We are not going to accept these continual threats, this continued uncertainty. We are going to stand up for Canada. This is unacceptable,” said Eby. “Americans are going to understand how pissed off we are and how committed we are.”
Eby emphasized that B.C. will not back down until the economic threat posed by U.S. tariffs is addressed. The proposed tax on American trucks is part of B.C.’s broader strategy to counteract the economic impact of Trump’s policies.
The province’s move signals a growing trade battle between Canada and the United States, as tensions over tariffs continue to rise.
