Victoria, B.C. – Premier David Eby has announced a sweeping ban on American alcoholic beverages in all BCLIQUOR stores in response to escalating threats from U.S. President Donald Trump. The move comes after Trump’s recent remarks targeting Canada’s dairy and lumber industries, as well as reports suggesting he has considered redrawing the border.
“We are taking this action in response to escalating threats from south of the border,” said Premier Eby. “Most recently, U.S. President Donald Trump made new threats against Canada’s dairy and lumber industries – and there are reports he has been musing about redrawing the border.”
Effective immediately, all American beer, wine, spirits, and refreshment beverages will be pulled from BCLIQUOR shelves. Additionally, the BC Liquor Distribution Branch will cease purchasing U.S. alcohol products. This decision expands on a previous move last week, which saw “red state” liquor removed in a more targeted response.
The Premier acknowledged that some consumers may be disappointed by the absence of U.S. products but encouraged British Columbians to embrace homegrown alternatives. “This is an excellent opportunity to sample Canadian products,” Eby stated. “I encourage those who enjoy Napa Valley wines to try the many award winners from the Okanagan Valley. British Columbia distillers produce many distinguished spirits, while we also brew popular domestic and craft beers.”
Eby also revealed plans to introduce legislation this week aimed at addressing the “unprecedented threats” from the United States. He did not provide specifics but framed the initiative as a necessary step to protect Canada’s economic and political sovereignty.
“Let there be no mistake about the intent behind tariffs. President Trump wants to hurt Canada economically so he can annex Canada politically,” said Eby. “As hard as it is to believe, our longtime friend and ally is behaving like a foe. Trump wants to force us into becoming the 51st state. That will never happen. We are proud Canadians. We will always be the true north, strong and free. Elbows up!”
The announcement has already sparked strong reactions on both sides of the border, with some B.C. residents supporting the ban as a bold stand for Canadian sovereignty, while others question the economic impact of the decision.
