New Delhi- Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal has expressed sharp criticism over the delay in implementing Minimum Support Price (MSP) laws and addressing farmers’ concerns. Speaking about the ongoing struggles of farmers, she said, “I believe there can be no bigger betrayal and setback for the farmers. In 2021, the Prime Minister withdrew the farm laws after apologizing and promised to fulfill their demands, but four years have passed, and they remain unaddressed.”
Highlighting the plight of farmers, Badal pointed out that over 700 farmers lost their lives during the protests, yet their sacrifices were not acknowledged. Referring to a 70-year-old farmer currently on a fast unto death, she remarked, “His life is in danger, and nobody is asking about his welfare. Only after the Supreme Court’s order did an officer visit him. However, no demands have been fulfilled, not even the small ones.”
Badal also criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for failing to press the issue effectively with the union government, as the farmer leader’s hunger strike entered its 21st day. She underscored the urgency of addressing MSP and the need for concrete action to honor commitments made to the farming community.
The issue has reignited tensions between the government and farmers, with demands for immediate action to resolve the long-standing grievances.
