Surrey, BC – The Surrey Police Service (SPS) announced a significant expansion this week with the addition of 45 new officers and staff to its growing ranks. This latest recruitment includes 13 new police recruits, 32 experienced officers from agencies across Canada, and four civilian professionals, bringing the total number of SPS employees to 945.
The new recruits will begin their police training next week at the Justice Institute of BC (JIBC), while the experienced officers will undergo six weeks of specialized training to update their provincial qualifications and familiarize themselves with SPS’s unique practices and policies.
Chief Constable Norm Lipinski welcomed the new hires, highlighting the growth and transformation of the SPS. “I welcome this latest group of officers and civilian employees to the SPS family. They are joining Surrey Police Service at an exciting time in our history with the increased responsibility of being the police of jurisdiction for the diverse and growing City of Surrey,” said Lipinski. “This large group is demonstrative of the continued interest from police officers with various levels of service, to join SPS.”
Over the past four months, more than 120 officers have joined SPS, reflecting its rapid development as Surrey’s new police agency. The SPS now boasts 487 police officers and 458 civilian support staff, cementing its role in serving one of Canada’s fastest-growing cities.
